With the strong growth of air traffic, the reduction of noise annoyance is one of the priorities of the government in order to improve life quality for the 620,000 residents affected.
This overall plan is made up of 5 key measures:
-
The extension of Roissy landing and taking-off bans at night. As of 2011, the noisiest airplanes will be forbidden between 10 pm and 6 am. New bans will be added from 2014, again between 10 pm and 6 am.
-
The 300-metre rise in altitude for flights approaching the Paris region. This measure, that will be the subject of a public debate in the next few weeks, will decrease noise nuisances by day and night thanks to a higher point of descent. She addressed a special message to the residents of the newly overflought areas: their needs will be met with targeted development.
-
A rebalancing of the traffic between the North and South tracks, the North ones being underexploited whereas the corresponding flight paths are mainly located above agricultural areas.
-
Implementation of continuous descent. This type of descent more virtuous both in terms of noise and in terms of fuel consumption will first be implemented in the middle of the night between midnight and 5 am, when the traffic is lighter. Subject to the security conditions related to these descents, the measure could later be extended to other time slots.
-
A new taking-off flight path at night, avoiding the very urbanised areas in the west of Roissy.
