Noise perception in Europe

Noise perception in Europe
Study - 28/04/2010
The European Union has published a perception survey on the quality of life in 75 European cities.
In each city, 500 citizens aged 15 and older, constituting a representative profile of the wider population, were interviewed.

In most of these cities, more than half of the people consider noise as a major nuisance, 51% in Rotterdam, 95% in Athens, versus 19% in Groningen (Netherlands) and 21% in Oulu (Finland). These results often correspond to the results given for air pollution.

In France, 42% of the respondents consider noise as a major issue, 44% in Bordeaux, 51% in Strasbourg, 57% in Lille, 70% in Marseille and 72% in Paris. It should be noted that for all French cities, the situation has improved compared with the figures of the survey organised in 2006, especially in Bordeaux and in Lille.
