Gay Pride: beware of decibels

Gay Pride: beware of decibels
Bruitparif - 22/06/2010
For the first time this year, a prevention action against hearing risks was organised for the Paris Gay Pride on Saturday, June 26th, 2010.
Thanks to the joint action of the Inter-LGBT, Bruitparif and the LMDE, the audience was informed on the risks of being exposed to high sound levels for a long time and was given hearing protections.

Four noise measurement stations, installed by Bruitparif along the way, showed in real time the sound level (in dB(A)) of any float passing by. According to the measured levels, light signals gave prevention messages:

- green signal: acceptable sound level;
- yellow signal, from 85 decibels: it is strongly advised to wear earplugs;
- red signal, beyond 105 decibels: it is urgent to go away from the speakers.

The objective was to make all participants - the public, the DJs, the float managers - aware of the hearing risks related to amplified music, for everyone to preserve their hearing and to keep enjoying music.
