European Environment Agency contest

European Environment Agency contest
Live news - 04/05/2011
For the International Noise Awareness Day on April 27th, the European Environment Agency (EEA) launched, in partnership with the Noise Abatement Society (NAS), a call for submissions for the “European Soundscape Award” which will recognise innovative solutions to noise problems.
Indeed, noise has many health impacts: sleep disturbance, ischaemic heart disease, cognitive impairment of children, tinnitus, annoyance… The report “Burden of disease from environmental noise” published at the end of March by the World Health Organisation estimates that at least one million healthy life years are lost every year in western Europe from traffic-related noise. This is why the EEA and the NAS want to raise awareness about the health impacts of noise and to promote initiatives that aim to reduce the environmental noise level.

All the information to participate is available on the EEA website, the submissions have to be sent before September 2nd, 2011. The award ceremony will take place in London in November.
