Courbevoie: 100% electric garbage collection

Courbevoie: 100% electric garbage collection
Innovation - 25/05/2011
On May 12th, Courbevoie (Hauts-de-Seine) has become the first French town equipped with a domestic garbage collection truck working with only an electric engine.
Aware of the inconvenience caused by the collection, Jacques Kossowski, deputy and mayor of Courbevoie, encouraged Sita IdF to make this innovation.
With a range of 8 hours for a distance of 50 km, i.e. 16 tons collected in 2 rounds, this new equipment will considerably reduce the impact on the environment.
It does not only provide sound comfort, aimed to preserve the quality of life of the 85,000 inhabitants of the town, but also a 90% reduction of the ecological footprint in comparison with a diesel vehicle.
This new generation of trucks will gradually replace the current trucks, for a 100% electric fleet, made up of 11 vehicles, by 2012.
