Cities for Living 2010: noise in 3rd position
Study - 29/07/2010
The Veolia Observatory of urban lifestyles has just published “Cities for Living 2010,” a perception survey carried out by TNS Sofres with 7000 people living in 7 cities in the world: Beijing, Cairo, Chicago, London, Mumbai, Paris and Sao Paulo. The noise issue appears in this study as a major concern of urban residents.
55% of the respondents find their city very noisy. It is their 3rd concern, after traffic jams (70%) and the high cost of housing (62%).

38% mention insulation (thermal and acoustic) of their home as one of the main priorities to improve their quality of life. But only 18% think that noise reduction must be one of the priorities of public authorities.

58% think car usage must be reduced in the city, although 65% remain attached to their own vehicles. Buses and the subway are considered as the means of transportation to develop, far before the tramway (except in Paris where it ranks first), cars and bikes.
