Measures against transportation noise

Measures against transportation noise

Road noise

Number 1 enemy of urban residents, car traffic is the main source of noise nuisances. Noise comes from the mechanical parts (engine, exhaust, transmission, brakes, stopping, waiting and starting at red lights), but also from the contact between the tyres and the road. To solve this, solutions exist, that sometimes need to be combined.

Air noise

Especially affecting the people living in close proximity to airports, the noise nuisances generated by aircrafts are a significant source of annoyance. There are means to limit the annoyance.

Rail noise

At the same level, noise nuisances generated by rail traffic seem to be better accepted by the local residents than road noise. They depend on the nature of the infrastructure, on its exploitation and on the rolling equipment using it. If the ecological assets of the train are already big, progress in terms of noise reduction is still possible.
