Implementation of the European directive

Implementation of the European directive

The 2002/49/EC European directive

The 2002/49/EC European directive of June 25th, 2002, determines the EU bases of the fight against noise in the environment. It requires making strategic noise maps and action plans, aimed to fight against noise nuisances, especially those coming from transportation infrastructures, as well as protecting quiet areas.

The territorial acoustic diagnosis

Carried out in an overall way, the maps correspond to a macroscopic approach and do not completely identify the specific areas where actions could be suggested within the action plan. This is why it is necessary to make a territorial acoustic diagnosis.

Strategic noise maps

The strategic noise maps required by the 2002/49/EC European directive represent the impact of noise on a territory for a determined period. They are non-binding information documents drawn up for a reference year.

Action plans

After the diagnoses established with the strategic noise maps, the 2002/49/EC European directive and its transposition into French law require the authorities in charge to make action plans.
